More like Dr. AWESOMEble
Thursday, June 26th, 2008So those of you who watch Buffy may remember the musical episode of Buffy as one of the few episodes that have my approval after I cut the show off at the end of season 3. Well that apparently didn’t get the musical bug out of Whedon’s system because he’s been spending his last few months working on a musical web show called Dr. Horrible’s Sing-A-Long Blog. It’s a musical about a super-villain, the hero who’s constantly beating him up, and the cute girl who he’s too nervous to talk to.
My initial reaction to this was to finally understand why Whedon was taking 3 fucking months to turn in comic scripts and then not care too much. Then I heard about part of the cast. The hero is played by Nathan Fillian. You may know him as Captain Mal from Firefly, and if you don’t then you should. The hot girl is played by Felicia Day. You don’t know her but someday soon you will. She was a cute redhead potential slayer in late season Buffy and one of the few parts of season 7 that didn’t make me sigh loudly. She’s more recently been getting some fame for her web comedy about a neurotic band of people held together only by the fact that they all play the same MMO. Yep, cute redhead who writes her own comedy series about playing videogames. She’s sorta the new nerd dreamgirl. Naturally Whedon had to hire her again. Her series is called The Guild by the way and it’s pretty good if you’re into that sort of thing…which I am.
But even despite all this I just couldn’t get my care on. I dunno why but it just wasn’t pushing the kind of buttons that made me start telling everyone I know about it. Then I finally read who was playing Dr. Horrible and it’s…it’s basically too good to be true. If you don’t believe me just watch this teaser trailer. And then and only then go to the Dr. Horrible website to see the incredibly cool poster/image for the series. I finally have something to fill my summer with once Dr. Who is over
